ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR MBA STUDENTS


GIM is organizing a week long Orientation Programme for the II year MBA Students from 14th July ’10 at the GIM Campus. This Programme includes a series of Workshops, Talks and Seminars on Personality Development.

This Programme includes themes viz..Journey from Campus to the Corporate world, Art of Public Speaking,Conflict Management & Team Building,Changing Face of Indian Management.

This Special Programme is expected to help the students understand themselves better in terms of skills and capabilities required by Corporate leaders and to facilitate them to develop these skills in themselves.

Eminent Trainers and Speakers will be visiting the Campus on these days to lead the events and interact with the students. “The right attitude and skills help MBA students to succeed in their corporate life and such Programmes are important and essential add-ons to the regular MBA curriculum” said Dr. Verghese Mathew, Director,GIM.

13-10-09National Seminar

GIM is organising a one day  National level  seminar for faculty members of B-Schools on 13th October 2009 at the Institute's premises. The Theme of the program is "LEVERAGING CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION FOR ORGANISATIONAL EXCELLENCE".

Papers are invited from the faculty members. Screened and the selected papers will be presented in the conference. This programme will provide a platform for the academicians to discuss and deliberate upon the theme. GIM is organising a Paper Presenatation contest for MBA students on 18-09-09.The Theme of the program is GLOBAL MELTDOWN - A CHALLENGE DEFYING MANAGEMENT WISDOM.

 

 

August 07- 08, 2009 - Management Development Program (MDP)

GIM in association with Palakkad Management Association (PMA) has conducted a Management Development Program (MDP) on "Break through Performance"  at    Hotel Indraprastha, Palakkad. More than twenty five middle and senior level managers from various industries took part in the program.

 

1st MARCH - EX-US'09 & Annual Day Celebrations

The Eighth Alumni Convention – EX-US’09, was conducted at GIM Campus. More than sixty alumni took part in the convention. Mr. S.T.Nambi, Faculty Coordinator delivered the welcome address. Dr.Verghese Mathew, Director, GIM inaugurated the programme. Dr.Thomas T. Thomas, Principal i/c presided over the function. Dr. N. Krishnan Bhattathiripad, Chairman, SGECT and Mr. Sunil Kumar, President, GIM Alumni Association, felicitated. and Mr.Prabhul S.Nair, Student, I MBA extended the Vote of Thanks.
GIM celebrated its thirteenth Annual Day on 1st March 2009 in the Campus. Dr.V.A.Joseph, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, The South Indian Bank Ltd, Thrissur graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Padma Bhushan National Professor. Dr.M.V.Pylee presided over the function.
 

27th FEBRUARY - "GIMFEST-09"

GIM has organised a One Day Inter Collegiate Management meet, GIM FEST ’09 on 27th February 2009 at 9.30 A.M. at the GIM Campus, Coimbatore. GIM FEST, the perfect arena for budding Managers to explore themselves and test their proficiency and skills in a competitive environment is being successfully conducted by GIM since past four years. The acceptance of the programme for its quality is evidenced by the increasing number of B - Schools and MBA Students participating in the events. . The GIM Fest ’09 was inaugurated by Commodore S. Saseendran, Director, Fluid Control Research Institute, Palakkad. Dr. Verghese Mathew, Director, GIM, presided over the inaugural function. Dr. Thomas T. Thomas, Principal i/c, GIM deliver welcome address. About 400 students from more than 35 various B-Schools in South India participated in GIM Fest ’09. They competed in the various events including Best manager, Business Quiz, Marketing game, HR Game, Finance Game, IT Game and Debate

 22st FEBRUARY  - "SPORTS MEET - 09"

“Sports Day ‘09” was held on 22nd February 2009. The students participated in a variety of sports, games and other athletic events.






21th FEBRUARY - "SARGOTSAV-09"

Sargotsav ’09, the intra college cultural meet was conducted on 21st February 2009 where students displayed their innate cultural and artistic talents.
 




19th & 20th FEBRUARY  - "AFFIATUS-09"

VISION, the Students Association of GIM, orgainsed the Intra Collegiate Management Meet Affiatus ’09 on 19th and 20th February 2009 at GIM Campus. All the students of GIM participated in various competitions including Debate, Business Quiz, Marketing Game, HR Game, System Game, Best Management Team and the Best Manager Competition.



Lilian Gilbreth Award

The Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE), Mumbai has conferred its highest honour Lilian Gilbreth award on Dr. Verghese Mathew, Director Guruvayurappan Institute of Mnagemnt. This award is in recognition of his meritorious services to the field of Industrial engineering . He received the award from Mr.PK.Bishnoi, CMD, Vizag Steel, on 16th January 2009, during the Golden Jubilee National Convention of IIIE at Vizhagapatnam.

 

International Seminar on “WOMEN & SOCIETY- EMERGING TRENDS AND CHALLENGES” on 7th January-2009

GIM organized an International Seminar on “WOMEN & SOCIETY- EMERGING TRENDS AND CHALLENGES” on 7th January 2009 at its campus. A group of women students from School of Management,Simmons College, Boston, USA and the students from GIM participated in the seminar. Dr. Verghese Mathew, Director, GIM welcomed the gathering and Dr.N.Krishnan Bhattathiripad, Chairman, SGECT, inaugurated the seminar. Prof. Mary Matilda from Maharajah’s College, Ernakulam delivered the keynote address. She explained the unique societal, religious and cultural factors of India and highlighted the need for gender equity.

Prof. Vipin Gupta, Director, International Outreach, Simmons College, Boston, USA and the students from Simmons College presented various research papers on Indian women, the similarities and differences between Indian and the US women and their role in the society. The students narrated their experiences and observations they had during their visit and their interactions they had with various women who were working in Self Help Groups in India.

National Conference on “INNOVATIVE BUSINESS STRATEGIES FOR THE INDIAN INDUSTRY – FUTURE OUTLOOK” on 27th September 2008.

GIM has organized a One Day National Conference on “INNOVATIVE BUSINESS STRATEGIES FOR THE INDIAN INDUSTRY – FUTURE OUTLOOK” on 27th September 2008. Academicians from various Business Schools from all over India participated and presented Technical papers in the Conference. The inaugural function of the Conference was held at the Campus Auditorium by 9.30 A.M. Dr. Thomas T. Thomas, Principal delivered the Welcome Address. The Director of the Institute, Dr. Verghese Mathew, formally inaugurated the conference. He emphasized the challenges in the era of globalization, liberalization and stressed upon the need for the innovative strategies for the industries.

The Conference proceedings included two Technical Sessions in different functional areas of management practice, with a total of about 30 delegates presented papers in the Conference. The major areas of deliberations comprised of HR Strategies, Finance Strategies, Marketing Strategies & Business Innovations.

30th Sep 2008 - Blood donation Camp

GIM has organised a blood donation camp in association with “Liquid Love Information Systems”, Coimbaore on 30th September 2008 between 9.30 am and 3.00 pm. It was held at GIM campus. The Chairman of SGECT Dr. N. Krishanan Bhattathiripad inaugurated the camp. Around sixty donors of GIM donated blood in the programme. A team of doctors and supporting staff from Indian Medical Association (IMA), Coimbatore collected blood from the donors. The team also identified the blood group of potential donors among the students and staff of GIM.

EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME - “MANAGING WITH A DIFFERENCE”, 1st & 2nd FEBRUARY, 2008

EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Guruvayurappan Institute of Management (GIM), Navakkarai, Coimbatore and Coimbatore Management Association (CMA) have jointly organized a Two-day Executive Development Programme, “Managing with a Difference” on 1st & 2nd February, 2008, at Hotel Park Plaza, Coimbatore. 30 Executives from various corporates in Coimbatore and Palakkad participated in the programme.

The inaugural function of the programme was held at Hotel Park Plaza by 9.30 A.M. Dr. Thomas T. Thomas, Principal, GIM delivered the welcome address. The Director of GIM, Dr. Verghese Mathew presided over the function and also formally inaugurated the programme. He enlightened the audience about the sea changes happening in the field of management and the need for corporates to keep abreast of development. He pinpointed the growing importance of human Resource Development and the awareness of organizations to train their employees for becoming better responsive to the external changes. He also insisted upon benchmarking of management practices against the best practices in the industry. Ms.S.Jaya Bharathi, faculty member, GIM presented the theme of the programme.

The programme included eight technical sessions on different functional areas of management. The aim of the programme is to facilitate the development of basic management skills of executives and make them think and act differently at their work places.

A team of twenty women students of the School of Management of Simmons College, Boston, USA lead by a team of faculty members -Prof. Vipin Gupta, Prof. Patricia Kelly, Prof. Mindy Nitkin- visited GIM on 11th Jan, 2008. The Institute has organized an interactive session on “Women’s Empowerment” in which the students of both the Institutes made presentation on the theme. Students of GIM presented an exclusive video documentary on religious and cultural issues that influenced the empowerment of women in India. This was followed by the interaction between the students of both the Institutes.

MANAGEMENT SEMINAR ON BALANCED SCORECARD, POLICY DEPLOYMENT
& SIX SIGMA - 10th August 2007

GIM organised a One Day Management Seminar on BALANCED SCORECARD, POLICY DEPLOYMENT & SIX SIGMA on August 10, 2007 at Hotel Residency, Coimbatore.

  • Mr. George Stephanos, Advisor, TQM International gave a presentation on BALANCED SCORECARD
  • Mr.K.Srinivas, GM, TIDC India, Chennai made a presentation on POLICY DEPLOYMENT.
  • Mr.D.K.Dubey, Master Black Belt & Approved trainer, Motorola University, Senior councelor, TQM International spoke on SIX SIGMA followed by a case study.

More than fifty participants from industry and academicia of B-Schools from Tamilnadu and Kerala took part in the program.

 

FREE GENERAL MEDICAL CAMP

FREE GENERAL MEDICAL CAMP

GIM organized a Free General Medical Camp in association with KMCH Hospital, Coimbatore on Sunday, the 5th November, 2006 at GIM Campus.

The inaugural function of the camp was held at 9.00 a.m. on 5th November, 2006 in the presence of

Mr.C.Shanmugha Sundaram, former Chairman of Madukkarai Panchayath Union deliverd the presidential address.

A special address was given by Dr.S. Muthuswamy from KMCH Hospital. Mr.P.Venugopal, Member of Mavuthampathi Panchayath Union and Ms.M.Maheswari, President of the Mavuthampathi Panchayath Union delivered the felicitation address.

FREE GENERAL MEDICAL CAMP

About 300 people of the adjoining villages and tribal hamlets namely Ettimadai, K.G. Chavadi, Navakkarai, Chinnampathi, Mavuthampathi, Puthupathi,

Mahendra Medu and Pichannur have participated in this camp. In this camp, in addition to awareness creation on the prevention and control of Chikunguniya and Dengue fever, free general medical check up and medicines were provided to the patients on free of cost.
